Looking for information on Fred Lee Burleson of Leonard Tx. This is really nice site. Descendents of Edward Burleson of Texas. There is a homestead in San Marcos,Tx. The Edwards Aquifer is named after our ancestor. There is a glass bottom boat tour that takes you by the old Burleson estate. The museum has a Burleson book about excavating the archeological site. You might also like to see the Burleson Bible at the Alamo in San Antonio. |

Ebb Burleson and Sara were my Grandparents. My Mom was Bessie Jane who married Billy Dexter Culp of badin. His parents were Ed Culp and Estell Schyler, she was from S.C. that's all I have about may them I don't even know the name of Ed's daddy. Great site! Does anyone out there have proof of the parents of Rev. Jonathan Burleson b. Feb. 1790 Rutherford Co NC? He married Rebecca McClure 1811 in KY. I think his dad is the Jonathan Burleson listed on the 1790 Rutherford Co NC Census, married and has 2 small children, a boy & a girl. I think the son is the Rev. Jonathan. Does anyone have proof this is fact or fiction? Would love to get feedback. Thanks. |

My father was raised under Roan Mountain in Loafers Glory, NC. I've been able to track my family back to Aaron Burleosn. My direct descendant was Simon Burleson, one of the may sons of Aaron II son of Aaron Burleson. From what I've been able to find out, they all lived around Mitchell County, NC. My dear Grandmother told me about most of this when I was younger and in later years I found proof of what she had said. Good to be a Burleson. |

I was researching info on Isaac Burleson for a cousin that has a story of her great grandfather Dock Wofford being raised by Isaac. In 1880 Census, Pickens County, GA their households are listed next to each other. Any info on this? Also, to my great surprise, I discovered my Charles A. Jones Family is a descendant of Isaac. Very nice...lots of work. Reason for my interest is that I'm kind of doing a little research for a Burleson friend, who was born in Albemarle. He was raised in an orphanage and can come up with only 3 names in his family. Worth Burleson, probably brother of his father, Howard Burleson who married Wilsie Poplin. They are buried at Poplin Grove Baptist church. Do these names fit anywhere in your genealogy or can you direct me to another line? Howard Burleson was born 1909, died 1972. There MAY be an interesting story surrounding his death. Any help will be appreciated.

It was particularly interesting to read about a cousin of my g-g-grandfather who happened to have the same name: David Derrick Burleyson.
David, son of Jonathan Burleson, grandson of Isaac, also served in the Civil War, enlisting at Savannah, Tennessee into Company F, 10th Union Infantry on May 6, 1862. He served until June of 1865, and was discharged in Knoxville, Tennessee, after having been briefly hospitalized for exposure.
David's parents were Jonathan and Permelia Burleson originating from Wadesboro, Anson County, North Carolina. Jonathan moved his family to Tennessee before the war. His son David D. Burleyson is buried at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
The physical description of the two men is different, but have similar height. David of Wadesboro, NC had black hair, dark complexion, and blue eyes. |
